The Atlantic Cup is Coming to Newport

The 2014 Atlantic Cup presented by 11th Hour Racing is the premier Class 40 sailing event in the United States. Teams will start in Charleston, S.C. on May 10th and depart on a 642-mile leg to New York City. Following a stop-over in New York teams will race a 231-mile leg to Newport, R.I., making The Atlantic Cup the longest offshore race on the east coast of the United States this year. The third and final leg will consist of two days (May 24th & 25th) of inshore racing in Newport.Join us Memorial Day Weekend as we kick off the summer season of sailing in Newport!For the very first time in the US, the top two offshore short-handed classes in the world will be together in Newport, Rhode Island. The IMOCA 60s are the big brother to the Class 40 (the boats in the Atlantic Cup). The 60s will be preparing for their prologue race to Newport in advance of the Ocean Masters NY-BCN race departing New York City June 1st. The Class 40s, of course, will be at the Shipyard gearing up for the inshore series. May 19th-24th: Stop by & Check out the Class 40s and IMOCA 60s From May 19-24th, the Class 40 and IMOCA 60 fleets will be docked at the Newport Shipyard for what will be a great opportunity for any offshore sailing fan to get an up close look at these racing machines. The Newport Shipyard is the Newport Home of the Atlantic Cup.

May 22nd: newportFILM Event "Shipyard Shorts: A Collection of Adventure & Eco Docs"Come down to the Newport Shipyard for a cocktail reception and meet and greet with Atlantic Cup skippers, Jamestown FiSH will provide light food. Tours of the boats will start at 7:00PM ($20 ticket price, reception + film screening) & the film will begin at sunset, approximately 8:15PM ($5 suggested donation, film screening only). May 23th: Newport Skipper Party at Jamestown FiSHJoin the Atlantic Cup staff and all of the Teams on Friday, May 23th, for an Atlantic Cup Party on the patio at Jamestown FiSH. New England Winner of the 2014 Food & Wine People’s Best New Chef, Executive Chef Matthew MacCartney and Jamestown FiSH hosts the Atlantic Cup teams for a Memorial Day Weekend Kick Off Party! A perfect way to start your long weekend with an opportunity to meet the teams, have a drink and bite to eat all on the beautiful back patio at Jamestown FiSH starting at 6pm. FiSH is located at 14 Narragansett Avenue in Jamestown. Rain location Narragansett Café, 25 Narragansett Ave. Jamestown.

May 24th: Atlantic Cup Course Wide Shoreline CleanupClean Ocean Access is hosting the first Narragansett Bay Shore Wide Cleanup during The Atlantic Cup presented by 11th Hour RacingThe goal is to remove marine debris along the entire coastline of The Atlantic Cup racecourse from Beavertail Point to the Pell Bridge in Jamestown, and from Brenton Point to Fort Adams State Park in Newport. Following the cleanup, portions of the debris will be displayed at Fort Adams during the Atlantic Cup’s inshore racing (May 24 - 25 from 11a-3p) allowing for spectators and residents to see what is along our shores. 2014 Atlantic Cup Teams

May 24th - 25th: Inshore Series 11am-4pm, Fort Adams Inshore racing in Narragansett Bay takes place Saturday, May 24th and Sunday, May 25th from 11am to 4pm just off the north lawn of Fort Adams, making that the best place to watch the action. Look for the checkered and Jamestown FiSH Flag flying as that will mark the start and finish line for all races.  Pack a picnic and enjoy a weekend of sailing. On Saturday, May 24th, the Moth Class will be hosting their Atlantic Coast Championships outside of Newport Harbor and the IMOCA 60s will start their prologue race to New York City following the Atlantic Cup racing. With live commentary and volunteers keeping you up to date you won’t miss any of the action. Plus Newport Bay Weekend at Fort Adams will have plenty for families of all ages to interact with local businesses and non-profits showcasing Narragansett Bay. Some of the confirmed groups who will be on site include: Clean Ocean Access’ Tiki Hut and Trash Wave, SurfriderAquidneck Land Trust, Style Newport, and Team One Newport will have all your sailing merchandise including official Atlantic Cup Atlantis Weathergear apparel.

May 25th: Atlantic Cup Prize Giving Party at the Landing, 6-8pm

The prize giving party is Sunday, May 25th from 6pm - 8pm at The Landing in downtown Newport. We will be set up outside adjacent to the Landing and in front of the Lobster Bar. PBR and Keel Vodka drink specials will be served to celebrate the conclusion of the 4th Atlantic Cup presented by 11th Hour Racing. The event is free and open to the public.
