Do you have any recommendations to young sailor’s looking to get into ocean racing? What are some key skills/qualifications skippers look for? What can I do inshore that will improve my offshore sailing abilities? I am 19 years old and currently training on Elliott 7s in Australia. I am really keen to get more involved in ocean sailing. |

Thanks for your question!
Ocean racers need to be well-rounded so you should always be trying to aqquire other skills to supplement your sailing skills…sailmaking, boat building, rigging, systems knowledge, medical training…everything helps!
You learn a lot about offshore sailing while you’re sailing inshore, speed is speed, the best offshore and inshore sailors are all fast!
Use more accessible inshore racing to harness your boat speed skills.
