Why is Tales having such a hard time entering the Narrows? |
Hi Tim
To answer your question we went to both North Sails Expert, Charlie Enright & Anderson Reggio, here’s what they had to say.
Sailing into New York is all about current. Right now Tales is in adverse current and in a no wind situation. There is no wind because there are conflicting breezes around the city with weak southerly offshore and a weak northerly inshore.
The rivers help to funnel the weak northerly down to the battery and the narrows help to funnel the weak southerly up the bay. Unfortunately where they meet equals a giant hole.
Below is regional observations of what is happening right now.
The tide turning will certainly help the teams. Around noon or shortly thereafter things should sort themselves out and a southerly should fill up to the battery allowing the teams to get moving again.
