Could you please explain the methodology used to calculate DTF?

Sure, our team at ION Earth weighs in here. DTF calculations are not exact, we provide it as a reference, and it’s not meant to be definitive. Calculating a racer’s progress along a set course is fairly straightforward, but once the racers are not on a set course, it’s harder to visualize. If you look at the boats and find the closest perpendicular point to the red course line, you’ll find that they are in fact correctly ordered, this is the way we determine course distance. We realize this is not perfect, but it is a comprehensive way of analyzing the fleet.
